Mastiha, Sap From Mastic Trees, Is the Latest Must-Try Cocktail Ingredient

Can This Ancient Greek Spirit Known for Its Healing Powers Catch on in the U.S.? Kleos is being billed as Greece's first luxury spirit made with Mastiha, a liquor made from resin from the Mastiha tree.

Kleos is a Greek Word meaning "fame or glory attained through good deeds or hard work" and it's an accolade deserved by Effie Panagopoulos, a Greek bartender living in America who has been on a quest to first make the best mastiha and then ensure mastiha is a must stock in the world's best bars.

This clear spirit offers a slight floral aroma tinged with pine. The full-bodied palate is distinctly sweet, opening with vanilla sugar and echoing the pine-y hint from the aroma, layered with mouthwatering cucumber and cinnamon tingle. Created by a former bartender, the bottle is covered with cocktail recipes. — Kara Newman
